Overview

Chanel Mousse Douceur is a rinse-off foaming facial cleanser designed to gently purify your skin of surface oils, dirt and makeup. It is specifically formulated for normal to combination skin and incorporates a unique blend of active ingredients that includes tulip tree extract and mallow extract. Tulip tree extract traps and removes environmental toxins from your skin, while mallow extract sooths skin and helps maintain moisture levels. The cleanser works to restore your skin's natural eco-balance and prevent free radical damage to the skin, which can lead to premature aging.

You can purchase Chanel Mousse Douceur on Chanel.com, Amazon.com or Shop.nordstrom.com for $45.

Product Report Card Grade

We give Chanel's Mousse Douceur Rinse-Off Foaming Mousse Cleanser a B+ because it is a good cleanser that is effective at removing makeup and impurities. We like how it smells and the way it lathers up really nicely. We deducted points however because it is very expensive and might not be great for dry and/or sensitive skin.

Technology or Active Ingredients
The cleanser contains tulip tree extract and mallow extract. The tulip tree extract (amplified by Bioglucane) has de-polluting properties, which help to purify skin, protect the integrity of its natural defense barriers and maintain its overall eco-balance. The mallow extract has anti-inflammatory properties, which help to sooth and protect dry and sensitive skin.
Hand-held device features a dual action brush head that oscillates at a sonic frequency of over 300 movements per second. It enhances the effectiveness of your cleanser by gently massaging your pores open to loosen dirt and oil and exfoliate away dead skin cells. It has rechargeable batteries that last for 30 minutes, and it comes with one of two replaceable brush head options - "Normal" or "Sensitive". There are four additional brush heads options sold separately including "Delicate", "Deep Pore", "Acne" and "Body".
The cleanser's active ingredient is soy protein, which provides amino acids that help maintain skin's moisture, elasticity and firmness. Additional important ingredients in the cleanser include borage seed oil for nourishment, as well as cucumber extract and rosewater. How It Works
The cleanser contains tulip tree extract (amplified by Bioglucane) to protect the skin and maintain its eco-balance. It also contains mallow extract, which is known for soothing/protecting dry and sensitive skin (anti-inflammatory).
  • As background, tulip tree extract is used in all CHANEL PRÉCISION Cleansers and Toners because of its de-polluting properties. The leaves of a tulip tree are coated in a protective wax that traps pollutants in the air and then the pollutants are washed away when it rains. The extract in the cleanser works in a similar way to purify skin, while also protecting the integrity of skin's natural defense barriers. Bioglucane enhances the natural cleaning power of the tulip tree extract and helps balance the skin.
Directions
Wet skin with warm water, and, using a small amount, work the cleanser into a foam in the palm of your hands. Gently massage on your face and neck in a circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, and pat dry with soft towel. You can use it twice a day (morning and night). Chanel suggests that you follow with the LOTION DOUCEUR Gentle Hydrating Toner.

Reputation

There are very few online reviews for Chanel Mousse Douceur, but the ones I saw were all positive. In 2009, it was awarded "Best Wash off Cleanser" in InStyle's Best Beauty Buys, and ELLE Canada/ELLE Quebec gave it "Best Cleanser" in the "Splurge" category of its Beauty Grand Prix awards. My mother and sister both have combination skin and love this cleanser. My skin is more sensitive, and I personally feel that it has made me breakout in the past. I saw one review that said the foaming ingredients in the cleanser were needlessly drying for skin and suggested a gentler foaming cleanser from Neutrogena, Dove or L'Oreal. If you are a die hard Chanel fan already, you probably don't care about the price, but I would definitely suggest trying to get a sample of the cleanser before you buy it to see how your skin reacts.
