Overview

The Extensa® kitchen faucet collection is currently only made up of the 7560 series. Available in five different finishes, the Extensa® 7560 is a low-arching, pullout kitchen sink faucet with a single ADA-compliant lever handle located behind the spout. The 7560 is actually an updated version of the previous Extensa® models (the 7560 and the 87560), which were discontinued in early 2010. The most notable change to the 7560 is in the faucet's construction, which is no longer made out of metal but rather a lightweight, durable plastic. Heavier metal faucets actually contain trace amounts of lead, so Moen (like other faucet manufacturers) switched to using lead-free plastic parts in order to comply with low lead requirements in California and Vermont. Moen also reduced the maximum flow rate in the new 7560 from 2.2 gpm to 1.5 gpm, and they upgraded the cartridge to the 1255™ Duralast™ cartridge, which exceeds the industry's durability standards.

The Extensa® 7560 is still configured for single- or three-hole sinks (escutcheon plate is optional), and it has flexible supplies with 3/8" compression fittings. It is exceptionally easy to install (even for novice DIYers) due to its Hydrolock® quick connect system. The pullout sprayhead also provides superior functionality. It has a 68" hose and a control pad on top where you can easily switch the water flow between aerated and spray. The Extensa® 7560 kitchen faucet not only makes any kitchen task quick and simple to complete, but it also has a beautiful transitional style that will look good in almost any kitchen décor.

You can purchase Extensa® 7560 kitchen faucets online. Prices will vary from $382 - $452 depending on the finish you select.

Product Report Card Grade

We give Moen’s Extensa® Kitchen Faucet Collection a B+ because we like its versatile, low-arching design and the convenience of its pullout sprayhead with spray/aerated flow functionality. We deducted a couple of points because the previous iteration of the 7560 received some negative comments about leaking and rusting, and it remains to be seen whether the 2010 update to the 7560 has fixed these issues. There were also a few complaints that the plastic connector under the handle cracks easily and that the overall plastic construction of the new 7560 feels “cheap”. Additionally, at this price point, we would have like the sprayhead to have pause functionality and rotate more than just 120°. Finally, since there is only one model in the collection, it isn’t ideal if you want a matching faucet for a secondary kitchen sink or if you need matching fixtures for an adjoining bathroom.

Pros And Cons

Pros

  • Lifetime Limited Warranty
  • Attractive transitional design that is available in five finishes
  • Reviewers were generally very happy with Moen's customer service
  • Pullout sprayhead with dual operating modes and a long, flexible hose provides excellent functionality
  • Low-arching spout still offers great clearance for cleaning large pots/pans
  • Hydrolock® quick connect system makes the faucet very easy to install

Cons

  • Some complaints that the newer version of 7560 with plastic construction feels "cheap" compared to previous models (current use of plastic is to comply with low lead requirements in CA and VT)
  • Many complaints about faucets leaking and rusting. (As a side note, these complaints were from customers who had purchased their faucets prior to the release of the updated version.)
  • Many complaints about the plastic connector under the handle cracking
  • Only one model currently in collection, so not ideal if you want a matching faucet for a secondary sink
  • Given the price, it would be nice if the spout pivoted at least 180°
  • Control pad on sprayhead doesn't include pause functionality

Reputation

The Extensa® kitchen faucet collection has received some good but occasionally mixed feedback from customers online. It received a 3/5 on Amazon.com (44 reviews), a 4.4/5 on Moen.com (40 reviews), a 4.3/5 on Faucets.com (34 reviews) and a 4/5 on HomeDepot.com (21 reviews). That said, a lot of the negative feedback on manufacturing quality is from customers who purchased faucets well before the release of the latest 7560 model in 2010. It sounds like Moen realized the faucet had issues and made every effort to improve it, but it will probably be at least three or four years before enough customer reviews have come in and can indicate whether or not they were successful. The bottom line is that water will erode all faucets eventually. Therefore, the best thing to do is to buy your faucet from a reputable company that offers a Lifetime Limited Warranty (like Moen) and keep the original sales receipt in a safe place. Choosing a kitchen faucet is a personal decision, but, if you aren't "sold" on the Extensa®, I would suggest taking a look at the Arbor® collection, which has a similar style and is around the same price point. The Arbor® collection has more variety in terms of models/sizes, and it has received great feedback from customers online. I also feel that it offers slightly better functionality than the Extensa® faucet.
